Common Morel

Morchella esculenta

About

One of Britain's most prized edible fungi, the morel appears in spring — April and May — in old orchards, chalk woodland and disturbed ground. Its honeycomb cap is unmistakeable. It must be cooked before eating as raw morels are mildly toxic.
