Goose Barnacle

Lepas anatifera

About

Goose barnacles attach to floating objects — logs, buoys, sea beans — and are regularly washed ashore on UK Atlantic-facing beaches after westerly gales. Medieval naturalists believed geese hatched from them, giving both their names.
